A Year Later: Nucor's West Virginia Sheet Mill Takes Shape

A year after announcing its plans to build a new state-of-the-art sheet mill in West Virginia, Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) provided an update on the project's progress during a groundbreaking event held today in Mason County.

Economic Advantages and Innovation

The new mill, which will be located in Apple Grove, will have a freight advantage and unmatched capabilities that will enable the continued expansion of Nucor's steelmaking operations. The project is expected to create approximately 800 new jobs and generate a significant economic impact for the region.

Groundbreaking Event Highlights

During the groundbreaking event, a new world record was set for the largest steel beam ever placed in a single lift. The beam, which weighed over 450 tons, was part of the mill's foundation and marked a major milestone in the project's construction.

Construction Progress

Construction of the Nucor Steel production facility is now underway, and the company expects the mill to be operational by 2024. The facility will produce high-quality sheet steel for use in automotive, appliance, and construction applications.

Support from Local Leaders

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) were among the local leaders who attended the groundbreaking event. They expressed their support for the project and its potential to create new jobs and boost economic growth in the region.
