Dubai Airport Delays Due to Flooding

Heavy rains batter Gulf states, causing floods and flight disruptions

Dubai International Airport experiences flooding, causing flight delays

Torrential rain has paralyzed Dubai, the Middle East's financial center, causing floods that have also disrupted flights at Dubai International Airport. By the end of Tuesday, more than 142mm (559 inches) of rain had soaked Dubai, causing scores of flight delays.

Footage from the center of Dubai showed dozens of submerged vehicles on a flooded part of Sheikh Zayed Road. Heavy rain has been battering Gulf states, causing flash floods that have killed 20 people and disrupting flights.

There are claims that cloud seeding is responsible for the record rainfalls in the United Arab Emirates and the wider region. Cloud seeding is a technique used to increase precipitation by dispersing chemicals into clouds.

The heavy rains are a rare occurrence in the desert region, and authorities are working to clear the floodwaters and restore normal operations.
